Dennen Week 2021 Announcement
3.1.21 – Camp O-AT-KA is saddened to announce that we will not be holding our traditional Dennen Week program in 2021; typically held the third week of August. Our main concern is always the safety of our campers, families, staff and volunteers. The testing requirements necessary for a one week camp will be difficult to fulfill and this wonderful program is able to run because of the loyal alumni that volunteer their time from all over the country. We do not feel it responsible to ask these volunteers to travel from varying demographic areas. While we will miss seeing our alumni, returning campers and volunteers for a week on Sebago, we are equally excited to announce our alternative program for 2021 …
DENNEN PROGRAM SCHOLARS
Dennen Week was formed in 1998 with a mission to uphold the vision of our founder, Reverend EJ Dennen. His vision in 1906 was to help boys in his neighboring community of Lynn, MA and offer an enriching outdoor, character development experience.
23 years ago the leadership of O-AT-KA recognized that our camping experience, and that of most residential camps, had become cost prohibitive for many families in Maine and is largely only in reach for families of great means. We are committed to honoring our neighbors and the Dennen mission for Summer 2021 by inviting boys, ages 10-15, who are Maine residents to apply to be a Dennen Program Scholar.
A Dennen Scholar is a boy who is recognized as a good “school citizen” and potential leader that is eager to participate in the full O-AT-KA camp experience. We invite all to apply by filling out the application, providing two references, submitting a paragraph of why you feel you will benefit from the experience, and agreeing to adhere to the O-AT-KA policies.
The Dennen Program scholars will receive a full scholarship to attend a two week session at Camp O-AT-KA for Summer 2021. Materials are due to Camp O-AT-KA by March 30th and recipients and their schools will be notified by April 16. There are limited spots available and 10 recipients will be selected for this honor.

What is Dennen Week?
Dennen Week is a special one week program for boys ages 10-15 at Camp O-AT-KA in Sebago, Maine. The Dennen Week Program is modeled on our founder’s original vision of Camp O-AT-KA and mimics the O-AT-KA summer program. EJ Dennen firmly believed that given the right opportunity, in the right environment, every boy would be able to raise his sights and aspirations to loftier goals. Dennen Week allows deserving boys the chance to experience the benefits of camp life, that may have otherwise missed such an opportunity.
Dennen Week Campers are recommended by their teachers, guidance counselors, and friends as exemplary and deserving of this honor through our application process. They possess exceptional abilities to work and play with their peers in a positive way, maintain respectful and rewarding relationships with adults, and have been identified as the present and future leaders of their communities. We strive to serve our local area, and over 90 percent of our campers are from the neighborhoods of Southern Maine.
The Dennen Week staff is made up of many of those who work at the traditional summer camp during the previous 7 weeks. Also many alumni come and volunteer their time, filling roles from cabin staff to the camp chef! Participating in Dennen Week is an annual tradition for many O-AT-KA alumni and part of how they give back to the community that had such a positive impact on their lives.
Dennen Week is historically held the third week of August at Camp O-AT-KA in Sebago, Maine.
