O-AT-KA is a very special, timeless kind of place. Even though there was a seven year gap between my last year as a camper and first year as a counselor, the second I stepped onto camp, memories came flooding back so strong it was like I never left. I still remember my first cabin and counselor, and I loved having a place where I felt both welcomed as I was and challenged to be a better person. My five years as a camper helped me learn the kind of culture and people I wanted to surround myself with as I applied for college. Being at camp also helped me start to discover my interest in student leadership development as a career, and as the current CIT Director, I’m beyond happy I get to give back to camp in this way. Camp is a timeless place, and yet while summer does not last forever, the connections and lessons you make at camp are things you carry through the rest of your life!
